i'm busy reading up on the riots right now. propane tanks being set on fire, though pretty, are not good. and i'm reading all the comments from the news articles and i'm just left going, what the fuck? because they don't know anything about the community over here. where the 18 year old was killed? it's a bad neighborhood. a poor, working class/immigrant one, with cheap housing. it's why i never go to henri-bourassa metro station at night, if i can avoid it. same goes for taking the 48, 49 or 89 bus routes, especially at night.

i was discussing this with a friend at lunch, a friend who lives right around the corner from where the riots sunday night/early monday morning took place. it's all agreed that the 18 year old should not have been shot, since at the moment, no one in the gang that rushed the officers were armed. so they should not have been drawn, at all. however, putting myself in the copper's shoes, yeah, i would have drawn it too. i mean, being rushed all at once by a group of 20 thugs? i wouldn't be surprised if they had knives or blades on them. not at all; i see them playing with it on the bus sometimes.

and then i read something like this, and it just hurts. the community there play on the racial profiling themselves. they put themselves down, and blame "the white man". like, my friend's mom was at the metro for the bus. it's after work. the lines are long. but she's waiting, maybe 10 people from the front and way long behind her, and this black woman [most probably haitian] just walks to the front of the line, to cut in. so the guy at the front of the line tells her the line starts in the back. and she starts pitching a fit, because he's racist and this abuse and this huge scene, until this black man near the end of the line pips up and says "no, it's because the line is over there" and points to the back.

me and my cousin were bike riding once to my grandmother's. on the way, we had to pass by the french elementary school park. it was still daylight, but the thugs had begun to convene for the night. we passed by them, and they started calling after us, telling us to come back. when we ignored them, they started chasing us down the street. we peddled faster downhill until we got to her drive way, then locked the bikes in the back while we were inside. the house across from my grandmothers? i would not be surprised if it is indeed a drug hot spot. i can't wait until they can come rush it and jail them all. they also have horrible taste in music, and proceed to blast it past 11pm in the driveway

no, sending these kids to jail won't solve the problem. no, coming up with community service won't solve the problem. no, a lock down on the borough won't solve the problem either, though i know i'd feel better walking around at night. no curfew, no police state. what i would do? take them away from their homes, their welfare, their belongings. make them live in a community apartment complex, where they can have little to no personal belongings. make them pay rent. follow them at work. be in their shadow for however long it takes. but make these people learn the idea of value. they don't work; they steal? sam's bike was stolen twice out of her locked back yard. if you're white and got something, it's because your parents gave it to you, not because you worked for it, and they want it. and they'll take it too.

i think this hurts the most.

Six of the firefighters called to the Sunday riot scene are now on sick leave, the force confirmed.

Firefighters from Station 18 in Montreal North are badly shaken after they were targeted by some of the rioters, who threw rocks at them while they answered a call to put out a garbage fire, union spokesman Chris Ross said.

"That's what makes it so difficult to understand," he said Wednesday. "This is something that is frequently unheard of as a firefighter. We expect our danger to come from the building, to come from the fire. We're really not accustomed to having to worry about the population."

Security has been increased at the station. Trucks now leave in pairs and with police escort when answering calls, Ross said.

If some of the remaining firefighters request a transfer from the station, Ross said he wouldn't be surprised.

&&

Men and women of all ages were seen running down the street hugging television sets, cartons of cigarettes and raw meat.

Three-metre-high fireballs from burning propane tanks illuminated the looters as they stormed the streets.

Canadian Press reported seeing an elderly woman carrying a stereo and laughing with her friend as they made their escape. Other looters were seen sipping beer grabbed from a nearby convenience store.

stop fucking pitying them. make them grow up. make them realize their actions have consequences.

guys and girls, i need to ask you all a huge favor. like super huge. it will take about 10 minutes of your time.
i'm currently entered in the friendsorenemies.com FOE-TO hunt that took place on warped tour. i am one of 5 entrants from the montreal date, though there's only 3 of us with photos up. i completed the damn list, and had a great time doing it. but to move on, and to ultimately the grand prize trip to LA to watch the last date of the show, and hang out with ma friends from the tour, we need people to vote on our pictures.

it's really simple. you need a buzznet or friendsorenemies account, which is free and takes no time to set up. after that, follow this link and give brownies to my photos. they are all under the username of spinderella. please please please i am begging you. the lead photos have 145 brownies so far, but if everyone one of you votes just once on each photo, i'll have surpassed that. i'm really annoyed that actually completing the list doesn't seem to be counting for anything. if we get it, we'll be forever grateful to you. i promise lots and lots of pictures.

if it helps any, I AM THE ONLY PERSON IN THE ENTIRE CONTEST TO HAVE COMPLETED THE LIST. THE TOTAL FRIGGIN LIST. FOR THE AMOUNT OF FRETTING I DID JUST TO GET MAX BEMIS IN FRONT OF THE DAMN CATERING TENT, I WANT THIS PRIZE.
